In memory of brother Levi Jones, ’05, a scholarship fund was established to benefit Lambda Chi’s at Tarleton State University.
Levi was born and raised in the Austin area, attending Liberty Hill schools from kindergarten up to his senior year of high school. He loved sports and the outdoors and this was very apparent through his active participation in high school sports, including basketball, baseball and football. During his senior year of highschool he achieved a no-hitter game, which earned him First Team All District honors. He also served as the Senior Class President and was elected Homecoming King his senior year. During his time at Tarleton State University, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and the Tarleton State University Texan Football team.
Levi had an infectious, lively personality and always had a smile on his face. He exemplified the core values of Lambda Chi Alpha, always willing to offer a helping hand to others any time they needed him. He was full of life and always cheered up others no matter what the situation.
On July 12, 2004, Levi Barbour Jones was killed in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 183. He was in his junior year at Tarleton State University where he was studying exercise and sports studies. At the time he was also a summer camp coach for kids’ sports.
The Levi Jones Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance to an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha at Tarleton who is in good standing and demonstrates a love for the outdoors or a true concern for his fellow man. Preference will be given to exercise and sports studies (Kinesiology) majors and students from the Liberty-Hill/Austin area.
